Jaipur-based smart meter manufacturer marks historic milestone in India’s power distribution modernisation drive.
Jaipur, India — March 25, 2026 – Polaris Grids, one of India’s leading Advanced Metering Infrastructure Solution Providers (AMISPs), has crossed the one million mark in smart meter deployments under the Government of India’s RDSS — a number that would have seemed ambitious just a few years ago.
The one millionth smart meter was ceremonially launched at the company’s manufacturing facility in Jaipur in the presence of senior government officials and industry stakeholders. Chief Guest Ajitabh Sharma, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and Chairman of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPN), attended the occasion and spoke about why smart metering matters now more than ever, particularly as India pushes harder on renewable energy and battery storage.
A Milestone That Reflects Execution at Scale
Yashraj Khaitan, Founder and CEO of Polaris Grids, called the achievement a defining moment for the company. “The 1 million smart meters milestone is a historical milestone for Polaris, as well as a telling testament of our abilities to execute under RDSS. It is an indicator of the trust of utilities and state governments, and the hard work of our ground teams. In India, our AMI solutions will facilitate two-way utility-consumer communication, which is the basis of a smarter, more efficient and financially viable power delivery ecosystem,” he said.

Rolling out AMI at this scale is making a real difference to how electricity gets managed and delivered across the country. On the ground, the results are already showing improved billing accuracy, significant reduction in Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses, more efficient utility operations, and greater visibility for consumers into their electricity usage.
Polaris Grids is currently the largest smart meter manufacturer in India, operating with an annual manufacturing capacity of five million meters. Through its upcoming facility, Polaris NOVA, based in Jaipur, the company plans to double that capacity to ten million meters annually by mid-2026 – driven by the growing appetite for smart metering across Indian states.
