KNOXVILLE, TN — March 2026 —
Electric vehicle ownership in East Tennessee has been climbing steadily, and for a while the local service infrastructure simply wasn’t keeping pace. EV owners were making long drives to Nashville or Atlanta for specialized repairs not exactly a practical option when you have a battery warning light and a full week of work ahead of you.
Volunteer Auto Group has responded to that gap by opening a dedicated electric vehicle service center in Knoxville. It’s the first standalone EV-focused facility in the company’s 22-year operating history, and the team says it’s been in planning for over two years.
The center handles battery diagnostics and repair, charging system servicing, software updates, and EV-specific brake and suspension work across all major electric vehicle brands currently on the market. Four EV-certified technicians are on staff, each having completed manufacturer-authorized training programs over the past 18 months.
“We saw where ownership numbers were heading and wanted to be ready before our customers needed us — not scrambling to catch up after,” said service director Carla Jennings. “Knoxville EV drivers shouldn’t have to leave the city to find qualified service. That’s been the gap we’re closing.”
The service center is open Monday through Saturday with extended hours on Fridays. Online appointment booking is available, and loaner vehicles are offered for any repair estimated to take longer than four hours.
Volunteer Auto Group says it expects to add a second EV-certified technician by summer as demand in the region continues to build.
